Eye Cream Not Working Anymore? Here's Why.
You bought the serum. Then the cream. Then the other cream. Your eyes still look tired. The hooding is still there. The fine lines keep getting deeper. The skin under your eyes looks thinner, looser, or more crepey than it used to. The problem isn’t your routine. It’s the biology.
Eye creams work on the surface. They can moisturize dry skin, help improve surface texture, and, depending on the ingredients, can help soften the appearance of fine lines.
But after 50, many of the changes you see around your eyes are no longer just surface-level. The tissue around your eyes is the thinnest skin on your face. Over time, three things happen below the surface:
- Collagen and elastin naturally decline with age, so skin loses its snap.
- Fibroblasts that create collagen and elastin slow down, so turnover is lower.
- Skin laxity increases, causing upper lids and under-eye area begin to crepe, droop, and fold.
In your late 40s and even into your 50s, hydration and antioxidants make a visible difference. Once the structural loss outpaces what the surface can fix, the returns flatten. More product doesn’t change that. No cream reaches the dermal layer where structural repair happens. Structural repair requires a different approach.
Age Repair Starts Where Creams Stop
At Rejuvience Med Spa in Scottsdale has been providing the Tixel Non-Surgical Eye Lift since just after the machine was FDA cleared in 2021.
Tixel isn’t a laser, it’s controlled thermal energy. The Tixel is the only energy device that can safely treat up to the lash line without eye shields that can scratch your cornea.
The controlled thermal injury triggers the skin’s natural repair response, activating fibroblasts to produce new structural collagen to tighten from the inside out over the next few weeks.
The result is firmer lids, a smoother under-eye, and less crepey texture, with downtime far shorter than surgery.
What Does Tixel Actually Improve?
The Tixel non-surgical eyelift is clinically effect for treating mild to moderate:
- Upper eyelid hooding
- Crepey eyelid texture
- Crow’s feet and fine lines
- Under eye darkness
- Overall eye-area aging
Why Tixel Is Different From Other Eye Treatments
The eye area is a challenge for aesthetic treatments: it needs enough energy to create meaningful remodeling and repair, but the skin around your eyes is delicate.
Tixel transfers heat directly to the skin for milliseconds, creating controlled microscopic injuries that trigger subsequent healing and remodeling. Treatments have virtually zero downtime. Redness typically fades same day and makeup can be work next day.
What About Dry Eye?
Thermomechanical treatment around the eyelids has been clinically proven to improve dry eye symptoms for people with evaporative dry eye associated with meibomian gland dysfunction. Clinical testing demonstrated improvements in tear breakup time, symptoms, and meibomian gland scores. That ophthalmic indication is separate from a cosmetic Tixel Eye Lift, but it demonstrates just how extensively thermomechanical treatment of the eyelid area has been studied.
How Many Tixel Eye Lift Treatments Do You Need?
The Tixel is a fractional treatment, and like all fractional treatments this means it usually isn’t a one-and-done treatment. Typically three to four treatments, generally spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart are needed for aging skin full correction.
Scottsdale’s Rejuvience Med Spa determines the treatment recommendations based on your skin condition, degree of laxity, treatment goals, and how aggressively the area can reasonably be treated.
Someone with early fine lines and mild crepiness may need one or two treatments, a different approach would be needed for someone with upper-eyelid hooding at 65. That’s why we don’t treat aging skin by checking a box next to your birthday. We treat the skin that’s actually in front of us.
When Eye Cream Isn’t Enough Anymore
- Keep using a good eye cream.
- Protect the area from Scottsdale sun.
- Wear sunglasses.
- Use sunscreen.
- Support your skin barrier.
But recognize when you’re asking skincare to do a job skincare can’t do. If the issue is primarily dehydration, eye cream may be exactly what you need.
If the issue is collagen loss, laxity, crepey eyelid skin, hooding, or etched-in wrinkles, you’re dealing with structural aging. And another moisturizer, even a very expensive one, isn’t going to rebuild that structure. That’s where regenerative treatment comes in.
